Prachi Dixit started dance at the very early age of four years old. Her dance performances started at the very young and impressionable age of seven. She performs in the traditional Jaipur Gharana style of Kathak dance. Her achievements in this style are accredited to her first renowned guru the Late Shri Kanhiya Lal, a worthy disciple of Nrityacharya Guru Late Shri Narayan Prasad. She is currently a disciple of her Guru Behan Smt. Shoba Koser of Pracheen Kalakendra Chandigarh, India. She received training in vocal music from the renowned guru of Agra Gharana Shri Akheel Ahmad Khan and holds a BA Degree in Indian Classical Music, Bachelor's of Education, and MA in English from Agra University. Prachi was invited as a child artist to perform for the President of India in Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. She has won numerous honors and awards at the Bhatkhande Sangeet Pratiyogita at the district and state levels. Prachi’s abhinaya in Sita Haran gave tears in the eyes of the audience as Sita. Her role of Manu in Kamayani won her the prestigious award of the best actress and performer by Agra University. Her role as Shiva in Gangavtarana was acclaimed as one of the best presentation of Tandav Nritya.
Prachi’s passion and excellence of dance has been shown on many stages in India and the United States of America from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California. She has taken the dream of her guru of teaching and touching as many lives as possible with Kathak. Of the last twenty years of her residency in the United States she has not only taught numerous students but has also gone to the American School Systems and performed, conducted workshops and participated in several summer camps teaching and performing Kathak. Her performance in “Nrityodaya” presented at the James Armstrong Theater, in Torrance California on April 17, 2004 was received by thunderous applause and acclamation by dignitaries and audience. She was invited to perform in the Taj Mahotsav, Agra, India during February 18-27, 2005. She has performed at the Triveni Kala Sangam (December 2005), New Delhi, India.
Prachi has been invited to perform in many cities and universities in the United States of America. Some of these are Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts; Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana; Classical Music Academy of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College, University of Notre Dame, Indiana; FAME camp for fire Arts, South Bend, Indiana; and numerous South East Asian Music Festivals. She has been responsible for the propagation and dissemination of this ancient dance form not only in India but from east to west coast in the United States of America. She has many students who are now performing and teaching this dance form.
Prachi is the founder of Nupur Dance Academy conducting classes in Torrance, and in the greater Los Angeles area.
